HOW TO GET MORE DONE WITHOUT MORE STRESS

HOW TO GET MORE DONE WITHOUT MORE STRESS

Do you ever feel like you’re doing everything and everyone else is doing nothing?  I used to because I never wanted to ask for help.  I lived by the mantra “If you want something done right, you’d better do it yourself.”  As a result, I ran myself into the ground, trying to do everything.

Two reasons many of us just do it ourselves is:

  1. It really does take less thinking energy to come up with an idea for a project or event on your own.  To some extent, it takes less thinking energy to put the pieces together and make something happen.  But in the end, you are unnecessarily stressed, grumpy and friendless.
  2. We are afraid to ask people for help.  We don’t want to intrude on others or make them feel burdened.  For me, I love being asked to help out if it’s within reason.  So I’ve started to view asking for help as an opportunity for someone else to activate their joy.

Proverbs 12:9 (NLT) says “Better to be an ordinary person with a servant than to be self-important but have no food.” Simply put, it is better to back off on what we think is the only way an idea should play out in real life and invite others on the journey.  Being ordinary with a team is better than being a superstar and burnt out (i.e. Food-less).  You get more done.  Your team feels a sense of accomplishment and your original idea manifests into something far better than what you could’ve handled on your own!

Question:  Is it hard for you to ask for help? Leave a reply below…

Peace!

  1. Thanks, Todd. I’m sending this to my son, Chris, who works at MD Anderson. He has a pressurized job and he knows the importance of team work BUT this is an incentive to keep it going for health and mental reasons.

    1. Lynn. Those are good reasons! Life Balance is so important and most of us (including me) tend not to be. Thanks for the comment!

  2. Yes, I have a very hard time asking for help, but just this morning I was stressing about driving to a LWML convention, and someone mentioned they had room for another person or 2, and for the first time ever I asked if I could ride with them, and of course they said that would be great:} Have a blessed day.
